I opened my N1R recently and could not find any battery on the circuit board. I think the N1R uses flash memory to store the configuration parameters and user patches, therefore it doesn't need a battery.

Look for leaking capacitors, unfortunately that's a common problem with Korg synths from the late '80s to mid '90s. I noticed it too late with my 05R/W (the acid had accumulated on the underside of the PCB, that's why I didn't see it initially) when it had already destroyed many traces. BTW, thanks ...

Re: 01/W or 01R/w alternatives

But is 03R/W and 05R/W closer to 01W than other synths like N5EX, N364, X5D, X3 etc ? No, all the sounds of the 05R/W are also included in all of it's successors. I used to have a 05R/W until it died due to leaking caps that corroded the traces on the board beyond repair (a very common problem with ...

It could be worth making a pdf document out of this guide as the tinypic.com hosted pics will probably disappear in a few months or years.
(I know somebody who's very good at doing this sort of thing  )

Yes the N5 is a X5D with more samples (an additional 4MB) and more programs and combis but the synth engine and the FX unit are the same.

I had a korg 05/rw do the same thing after about a year and a half, after buying it new. It eventually degrades to where the audio is totally distorted and quiet. I think there was something not quite right with the manufacturing of these units and I would avoid them or check them carefully before ...

Thanks for that link mariocro, I hadn't come across it and it's certainly useful for me as the X5D is the keyboard version of the X5DR, so quite similar.

But I would still like to find the service manual of the X5DR as the PCB layout is obviously different from the keyboard version.

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately that's only the Owners Manual, not the Service Manual.

Korg X5DR service manual?

Does anybody have a pdf copy of the X5DR service manual? I can't find it anywhere on the net.

Many thanks in advance.

You need to buy a USB to MIDI adapter. The very cheap ones are often unreliable so I'd suggest buy a good brand one like M-Audio.

Well since this is an actual manufacturing error that results in a defect I would expect that if someone who owns a Volca Beats does a warranty claim with Korg to get this repaired Korg would need to do this under warranty. It seems absurd to me that the owners have to fix this themselves and ...
