I don't see any way to save a bank of sounds in MonoPoly, Polysix, or the MS20. It has the option to load a bank of sounds, but no way to save them anymore. It used to save banks.

Can anyone confirm this?

This is only the MS20, as I know of no other patch cables for any of the korg legacy synths that use patch cables. Here's the thing with that. If they were created on the XL or XL+ versions, they might give that message when trying them using the original MK version. I doubt that it is an issue with your midi controller though. I have a free 128 sound set called Microkosmic, and another set called Microwave that has 256 sounds. There is a demo soundset for that one there as well.
I guess you might find a few sounds out of them that might help.
