I've seen problems like this in many keyboards, and I'm not much into forums... but I do recall Alesis having problems with Fusion and Andromeda, Roland having problems with the XP keyboards, and more recently and notably, the Juno G's, etc.
People panic and is understandable to some degree.

I would recommend the M50 too. Just try to get it from a trusty source.

I had one freeze about five months ago, and I am an 88'er. However, it has not happened since.....I think it was because it was on for a long time before I played it (8 or 9 hours).

Hey,

Just posting to say I've had that same issue almost every time I play it. Will guitar center either fix or swap it out?

Thanks,

I guess it depend upon their policy and if your m50 is still in warranty or not. In my case, the shop send it to korg authorized service center and I had it back repaired.

Mine started freezing 45 days ago, after 2 years of very light use and care.

While frozen, buttons don't work, etc. I have to turn it off and on and yesterday, I've got the message of "updating panels".

I have a Yamaha FC-7 Expression pedal and a Korg sustain pedal plugged in: unplugged both and, sometimes freezes, sometimes not.

Never ever happened with the X5, X5D and CX-3.

Freezing

Post by JohnnyL »

I've had my M50-73 for almost 3 years. About a year ago it started locking up once in a while. A few weeks ago it became more frequent. Now it freezes about 2 minutes after power up (every time).

Serial number is 221.

you may try the following:

- hard reset (do a backup of .PCG file if you have custom program/combi or custom global setting) - somewhere in the M50 sub-forum there is the combination of keys to be pressed to do hard reset (sorry i do not remember it on the fly)

if hard reset do not solve the issues (very likely this won't solve the issue):

- re-install from scrath the latest OS

if alsi this won't work (very likely, i am sorry):

- bring your M50 to authorized korg repair center; usually the issue is solved either replacing the motherboard or replacing two capacitors or if you're lucky replacing the whole M50

I one time had not a freeze (never had a freeze) but the touch display did not work (might be the problem of the panel error described above).

Solution: open the M50, disconnect connectors from/to the panel display and reconnect them again. Of course only do this if you feel comfortably opening up the M50.

Takes about half an hour and never had a problem since (even after lots of movement).

Also Remember that opening up your M50 voids it's warranty so be sure your warrenty has expired prior to doing so.

The results of the poll are concerning: 43 people experience freezing, vs 53 who do not. Even accounting for bias, that's a huge percentage.

It depends ... like any poll, people having problems are expecting to react faster or at all than those who never had problems ... they might not even look at KorgForums.

Mine is the KORG PA3X 61

SHARP

When you say internal memory stick ?
what do you exactly mean ?

is that under the keyboard where the HD goes ?
the factory one is 4 gigs i think, I replaced it with a 16 gig version.

It would boot maybe %25 and it would freeze

I tried everything reinstalling the OS, factory resources you name it.

It was the KORG AUTHORIZED tech that told me its the main board.
another problem is the PAS would not work, I tried two different PAS speakers they both did not work, So that's why i believed it was the MAIN BOARD.

Please Advice.

Thanks
