I only use my Kronos as a sound Module. That's why I hardly post anything in the Kronos forum. I don't use Karma, on-board sequencer ..etc. It sounds awesome for creating fast ideas without having to worry about running plug ins to look for inspiring sounds. That should put me in the 5 % category which is not listed.

Well, I've digged a lot in some of the synthesis (AL-1 mainly, because despite being the one I overlooked the most at first, it turned out to be my all-time favourite VA synth (hardware or vst), and HD-1 for user samples based programs)...and only barely scratched the others (Mod-7...outch, STR-1 same)

Even if I did a lot of work with combis (mainly for orchestral and choirs stuffs), I haven't used Karma at all yet.

But on the other hand I think I'm pretty deep in the sequencer mode, using audio tracks on various outputs as well as controlling my own midi gear and my guitarist's rig with automated changes of progs and ifx setups at the same time on the K.

...so...I would say, barely 20%

I have my Kronos for about 7 months now and have only explored the tip of the iceberg so far. Haven't done much with KARMA yet, nor with programming sounds. I use a DAW, so don't use the internal sequencer either.

Next step for me is to pick one of the nine engines and learn how to program it. This piece of equipment will keep me busy for the coming 8 to 10 years (which is a good thing imo). :D

Quote to my own post: I thought memory usage was meant.

In that case I think I explored about 20%, I haven't go deep in several engines, not in the sequencer, not in karma and not in sampling.
I only know a lot about PCG files, combi mode, general program mode.

It just goes to show what a beast the K is. Also, there is something for everybody, which surely defines what a 'workstation' is supposed to do / be.

I voted incorrectly: I clicked "more than 80%" when really I meant up to 20%.

I've used the sequencer, sampler, programmed the HD-1, STR-1 and AL-1 engines a bit and tried pretty much all the presets and effects.

The sequencer, sampler and HD-1 are probably my main areas of focus so far, but desperately want to devote some time to combi programming, STR-1 and the FM engine. Also want to play a little bit more deeply with KARMA.

Maybe by 2016 I will fulfil my list.

I've had my Kronos for roughly 3 months and use it as a performance board ... with me playing it in real time (i.e., no Karma, no sequencing, etc.).

At this point, I'm competent at finding and selecting preset voices, creating combis that combine preset voices - as well as customizing presets (prg voices and combis) for "ergonomics" (i.e., octave placements, keyboard splits, adding effects, use of pedals, controller section, etc.) I'm competent with the file handling functions (saving custom patches, storing / tranferring data in and out of the Kronos via USB stick, etc.) I'm also competent with Setlist mode.

I've dabbled with the recording/sequencing functions as a practice tool (creating a background of chord / rhythm patterns - to use as a practice tool for working on solo passages.).

I haven't done anything with Karma (other than amuse myself with "canned" scenes), I haven't used the sampling capabilities, nor have I delved deeply into voice programming (other than the aforementioned "ergonomic" focused tweaking).

Kronos usage

Post by JPROBERTLA »

I've had the Kronos for 7 months now. During that time I have used the sequencer extensively and all of the engines to voice sequences. For that reason I put 40%. I have not had to do very much sound programming yet because most of the programs I need for voicing are already there. Eventually (or as necessary) I will do more custom programs and utilize the audio tracks to save polyphony, which I am having problems with.

I have peeked into the MOD-7, AL-1, Polysix, STR-1 and MS-20 engines and find them comprehensive and facinating - just no time right now to experiment. The SGX-1, HD-1, CX-3 and EP-1 (which I use for about 80% of the voicing) are much simpler, straightforward, easy to understand and work with. I have 200+ seqnences to transfer from my Triton, with a band patiently waiting; in seven months I have managed to do about 50. Most are relatively complex sequences that need to meet high standards set by the group I am performing them with. I suspect that I will go back and use better sounds (especially guitars, brass, woodwinds, reeds and strings) as I tweak them myself or as better sounds become available. In any event, I will probably never get past 60%; this keyboard has things I will probably never need - but its good to know they are there in event that I do. Honestly, I can't think of anything (practically) that the Kronos can't do.

Next month it completes one year with me.

I voted 60%, as I don't use the sequencer for recording, but it's my main mode for playing (I program all my live sounds and backing tracks there). I've got many things to learn about Karma as well.

But I went deep into the engines since the very first day, and now I just have to learn STR-1 a little deeper.

Amazing board!

I just can't answer that. 100% being what? How much of the Universe Mankind knows about? How can you evaluate a % when you don't know the boundaries? :)

Thanks for taking part in the poll. I am 100% satisfied that about 20% forum members have commented, 10% of which are not sure what percent they have used there Kronos. 25% of me doesn't know why I made the poll but that means that 75% does . All I know is that I love my Kronos 100% and I am 110% barking mad! And my mortgage interest percentage rate is to high !

I have had my Kronos since June 2011. The thing is with this instrument is that I am STILL discovering just the programs! It inspires so many ideas and just jamming on this instrument has thus far prevented me from getting "deep." Sounds strange I suppose but really, I have probably only messed with ONE combi - Guitar Stories.

I DO want to get into sound design and AL-1, STR-1 and MOD-7 really interest me but Kronos won't let me explore because it wants - DEMANDS - to be played.

I think however that the next step for me will be KARMA. I do not believe that it is merely a complex arpeggiator as some have proclaimed. Just messing with the KARMA scenes on that one aforementioned combi has astounded me.

So as to a percentage? .0000000000001%

Side note: Runningman, Cello is spot on: your music is exquisite and to qrobinez, yours is as well PLUS yoiur sound design is off the hook! If YOU are still saying that YOU have much to learn from this monster, then my journey will be 100 times longer than Frodo's!!
Current gear: Kronos, Jupiter 80, Kurzweil PC3,Roland Fantom X8, Roland XV-88 (yep, its old, but the ACTION is heaven and those XV-3080 sounds are still wonderful for me), Radias-R, Motif ES (yeah it's older but I love the guitars ;) )

Sounds very familiar ... and with all the new programs from people shared and external libs it probably will never end.

I haven't turned on my Kronos in MONTHS! I only used it as a sound module anyway. I do intend on using it, but I alway find the sounds I'm looking for in software. As far as performing live, I use my XS8, A70, FantomXR, and Motif-Rack. I love my Kronos, but I'm done with workstations.
