FWIW: the size of the keys on the rise are about the same as those on a full size standard keyboard - the keys themselves are not like mini keys. So that doesn't take too much getting used to if that 's what you're worried about.

Yes I'm aware of that. I have tried it a few times at various stores. It will take some time getting used to those silicone keys, but that's no big deal.

One more question. Aside from all slides and glides and stuff... would it make sense to use this with traditional orchestral instruments as well?

I guess I would answer that question with a question, knowing it has a lot of dynamics in just how you use your fingers, why wouldn't you want to use it with other instruments?

Because when you go to a Guitar center store , they don't exactly have the kind of set up that I need. All they have is the controller hooked up to some kind of soft synth. It's probably the same with other store as well. So I have a pretty good idea of what it does to Leads, pads, and synth types of sounds, but I haven't tried it with an orchestral instruments YET.

So I guess what I'm asking here is , if any body has used this controller for orchestral mock-ups? Is it pretty smooth or the effects are a little too crazy and hard to control for those types of instruments? Has any body had personal experience in this regard in general?

I understand and can't answer that as well as others. But for me with the soft synths I have sounds from intact and logic it works well but my uses are limited to my ability which is not extensive. With what little orchestral I have I love it.

Of course it works great for orchestra patches. Try on a string section. The natural vibrato you can do is amazing!

Great!!! In that case, you can easily use it to do natural breath controller types of parameters with wind/brass instruments too. Thanks!

Indeed, no need for a breath controller if you have the Rise. It works great in combination with a Kronos (though getting it set up was a bit of a bear). And some things you cannot easily assign. Eg, sliding up a key always opens the filter and you cannot change that (yet).

Maybe PCG Tools can help in this, it has a MPE for combi function.

I doubt PCG tools can do this - the Rise midi CC is hardcoded to the filter control. The Rise dashboard does not allow you to change that - I doubt PCG tools can do anything about that.

I just heard Sally Sparks play it... very cool indeed... very musical played properly. These new controllers are a healthy trend taking expression into new territory.

Continuum looks interesting but what I ultimately like about the seaboards is that they still somewhat seem familiar with so much more potential. I will never see a continuum where I live but would like to see one.

Wow, I dint know that. I guess I need to install a newer version than the one I have.

Thanks for this :)
