Re: Ethernet USB?
I'd assume this is one way for this to work - though with a valid IP address; I'd assume you could hook the Kronos / KronosX up to an Ethernet hub/switch and the computer can be connected to the same network somehow.Darmin De'flern wrote:what is Ethernet over usb does that mean Ethernet cable into Kronos then an Ethernet adapter the other end to go into the lappy Ethernet port?

That would make sense otherwise you would have to change cables on the PC to connect to the internet?Comrad_Durandal wrote:I'd assume this is one way for this to work - though with a valid IP address; I'd assume you could hook the Kronos / KronosX up to an Ethernet hub/switch and the computer can be connected to the same network somehow.Darmin De'flern wrote:what is Ethernet over usb does that mean Ethernet cable into Kronos then an Ethernet adapter the other end to go into the lappy Ethernet port?

yes, you could plug it directly into your laptop, but you would need to set static IP addresses on both sides (the kronos and the laptop) in order to get them to talk.
The easiest way, though, is to just plug it into a switch (or your home dsl router) that allows for DHCP - the Kronos can automatically get an IP address.
You will then be able to use an FTP program (filezilla is a great free graphical one) to move files back and forth between the Kronos and any other computer on your network.

I often have two PCs running and download to the one not connected by usb to the Kronos. Then transfer files to a usb stick. It will be great to avoid those steps now.
Hi all,
Don't you think an usb to wifi thumb will be perfect for ethernet connection ?
This would eliminate an additional cable and to fragilize the usb plug in the Kronos.
Usualy the ethernet cables are quite rigid and an usb connector is quite fragile.
What do think ?
Dan any thought on that possibility ?
Ps: thanks to the KORG team for the exciting enhancements !
Cheers

It would save me a lot of time for developing PCG Tools, since now I have to swap the USB stick for every small test I do.
I assume it will be possible to transfer PCG files from a computer to the Kronos SSD and vice versa?

it's a shame they don't use 10/100/1000 rj45 for Midi
on my Euphonics is is so much better than traditional or usb midi.

With the ethernet connection and the Kronos acting as an FTP-server, you can do all file management related things.michelkeijzers wrote:I assume it will be possible to transfer PCG files from a computer to the Kronos SSD and vice versa?
This includes transferring PCG files from and to your PC.

Thanks for the confirmation; yes I read the FTP server part too late.Yuma wrote:With the ethernet connection and the Kronos acting as an FTP-server, you can do all file management related things.michelkeijzers wrote:I assume it will be possible to transfer PCG files from a computer to the Kronos SSD and vice versa?

Ethernet USB adapter on Korg X question
I'm a bit confused. THe Kronos X is talking about ethernet, but its saying a USB Ethernet adapter. 1) Is this something you have to buy extra? 2) Does it work only on the Kronos X or could it be used on an earlier Kronos (perhaps with OS 2.0?).
Also, I was under the impression that Ethernet is faster than USB, but I could be wrong about that.
It seems to be being talked about in relation to the X, but I would like to know more details on it and if I need the X to do it.

Re: Ethernet USB adapter on Korg X question
Support for USB ethernet adaptors is a feature of KRONOS software version 2.0. This applies to all models of the KRONOS.NJkeysman888 wrote:I'm a bit confused. To be honest I don't see why there isn't some kind of USB "mass storage mode" like there was on the Triton Extreme (and, presumably, M3) series. I'll be alright with Filezilla but comparatively, it's quite a hassle to set up, not to mention having to buy extra hardware.
Is there any good reason for not using the already present USB connection?

The Triton Extreme and M3 are USB devices, while the KRONOS is natively a USB host, like a computer. We also have a USB B port for MIDI, but that's essentially a separate internally-attached USB device, and - similar to a MIDI interface attached to your computer - has no direct access to the file system.SanderXpander wrote:To be honest I don't see why there isn't some kind of USB "mass storage mode" like there was on the Triton Extreme (and, presumably, M3) series.

What hassle are you expecting? In my experience the setup is trivial, especially with modern operating systems that support zero-config networking; point your ftp app at kronos.local and you're done.SanderXpander wrote:I'll be alright with Filezilla but comparatively, it's quite a hassle to set up, not to mention having to buy extra hardware.
